The first estimate of European Commission’s consumer confidence showed a further weakening in consumer sentiment in October, but at a somewhat softer pace. The headline index dropped from -19.1 to -19.9, close to the consensus estimate, which was looking for a decline to -20.0. Consumer sentiment is back at the weakest level in more than two years as the euro zone debt crisis is still lingering and the economic outlook deteriorates further.
