Socialist MSZP and their coalition partner Free Democrats (SZDSZ) have won the general elections by securing 210 out of the 386 mandates
In the new Parliament, the Socialists took 190 seats and their coalition partner Free Democrats' Alliance won 20 seats. Opposition Fidesz won 164 seats and conservative Hungarian Democratic Forum took 11, with one independent candidate winning one mandate.
The Prime Minister announced before the second round of the elections on Friday, the Socialists' plan to curb the budget deficit immediately after the new government is set up. This could be viewed as neutral, as there are pressures from several sides on the new Government to make this step. However, no details were released.
