The Russian Unified Energy System (UES) has agreed to purchase the Bulgarian Varna power plant with an installed capacity of 1,260 MW for EUR 578.8m. Note that UES won a tender for two Bulgarian power plants, Varna and Russe, while CEZ finished second. According to a decision by the Bulgarian antitrust regulator, UES could purchase only one. Ruse remains state property and thus CEZ could still be in the game for this acquisition.
