CEZ was reportedly not shortlisted in the tender for Polish coal power plant Dolna Odra with an installed capacity of 1,742 MW, while Electrabel, Enel and Endesa got into the second round. The tender is for a 10-85% stake. At the same time, today is the final deadline for bids for the largest Polish coal power plant, Kozienice, with an installed capacity of 2,845 MW. CEZ is also interested in this tender.
In our view, CEZ should not react negatively to the news as there are several tenders CEZ is involved in or plans to get involved in. At the same time, failing to make the acquisition increases the chances for a windfall dividend.
The International Energy Agency has said that the Czech Republic must adopt measures to improve energy efficiency and increase competition in the electricity and gas markets. At the same time, the agency said that some plans, i.e. increasing the share of renewable sources to 15-16% from 5% by 2030, may prove too costly and difficult to achieve.
