CEZ still may buy a power plant in Bulgaria The Russian UES can appeal against last week’s decision by the Bulgarian Anti-monopoly office that UES can only buy one of the two power plants it won in a tender (Rouse and Varna). The deadline for completing the deal set at July 20 is likely to be postponed again. The Privatization Agency said that it will see whether UES appeals against the decision before it starts talks with CEZ, which finished 2nd in the tender. Note that CEZ offered EUR 36.3m for Rousse against UES’s EUR 179m, and EUR 286.5m for Varna against the EUS bid of EUR 580.4m.
CEZ has said that it supplied electricity to the three counties with the highest electricity consumption in 2004. The total electricity consumption in these counties reached 27,438 GWh, equivalent to 40% of total domestic electricity consumption.
