According to the CEZ spokesman, the company is increasingly likely to expand the Temelin NPP by an additional 3,000 MW as CEZ cannot rely on the expansion of regional limits for coal mining. Although the CAPEX in building a nuclear power plant is significantly higher compared with a coal power plant, there is already a prepared base for Telemelin’s extension, which would reduce the total CAPEX. In addition, direct costs per MWh produced at a NPP are less then half those of coal plants and nuclear power should be more compliant with Kyoto agreements.
