On Saturday the CSSD executive committee approved a plan for PM Stanislav Gross to resign if talks to form a new Cabinet with both current coalition parties - the Christian Democrats (KDU) and the Freedom Union (US) - succeed. The three coalition parties did not find a solution during the weekend, but still agreed that any solution should not be based on the support of the Communists. Talks are to continue on Tuesday.
Regular parliamentary elections are scheduled for June 2006. If the negotiations are successful there would be no need for early elections or for CSSD to rely on the support of the Communist Party to remain in power.
