ODS opposition party leader Miroslav Topolanek called for early elections on the back of questions regarding the PM’s purchase of real estate. Also Miroslav Kalousek, the chairman of the second coalition party, the Christian Democrats, called for talks with its partners as well as with the opposition ODS at a meeting on Thursday. Kalousek also reportedly plans to ask the PM to resign. The Christian Democrats would expect the president to then appoint a new PM after a proposal by the Social Democrats, while all the ministers would remain unchanged. Note that in order to call early elections, the opposition party would have to call a vote of confidence in Parliament. Regular elections are scheduled for June 2006.
