The Czech Telecommunication Office (CTU), the country regulator, said that it would start looking into whether it should regulate Voice over IP (VoIP). CTU asked independent experts to submit their views and also the opinion of the Association of European Regulators. VoIP is mainly used by alternative operators and it saves calling costs. VoIP represents one of the threats to CT’s traditional voice revenues going forward. Source: Hospodarske noviny
Separately, CT’s CEO, Gabriel Berdar, questioned whether the planned Eurotel’s spin off would be a profitable transaction for the future owner of CT. Berdar also said that the new electronic communications bill passed last week will not improve the regulatory environment and does not fully comply with the EU requirements. Source: Pravo
