Cesky Telecom will receive CZK 290m or CZK 0.9 per share as compensation for providing universal services last year (emergency calls, services to handicapped), the local regulator CTU ruled yesterday. As the amount will be paid by all market participants, including CT and Eurotel (60% of the overall amount), the net proceeds for CT will be negligible. Note however that CT originally wanted CZK 6bn from the CTU and it is thus possible that CT will go to court as it did in the case of compensation for providing universal services in 2002.
