All heavy goods vehicles (HGV), from 12 ton upwards, using German highways will be liable to pay tolls as of August 31. This applies to both German and foreign HGVs.
Based on the average toll rate of 12.4 cents/km, the toll rates will vary between 9 cents/km and 14 cents/km - depending on the vehicle's axle load and emission behavior. This means that foreign highway users will make a substantial contribution to the infrastructure costs of the German highways.
The impact for the Czech shippers will be substantial, says the largest Czech shipping association (Cesmad Bohemia) in its press release from today. The transportation costs to western countries will increase by 15 to 30 percent for HGVs. Tolls can be paid via the Internet or 28 payment locations in the Czech Republic.
