The PX-50 index rose by 1.4% last week, closing Friday at 543.7 points. The overall market volume reached USD 177.7 mil., 34% above the 12M average. Erste Bank was the major gainer, rising 4.8% on the week to CZK 2,347 (despite posting a loss on Friday after reporting in-line Q1 2003 results); the stock’s traded volume (USD 27.6 mil.) was a whopping 258% above the 12M average.
Komercni banka was also considerably ahead at week’s end, closing Friday up 3.0% at CZK 2,080, and again was the volume leader (USD 59.2 mil.). Ceske radiokomunikace rose by 2.1% to CZK 197.50. Philip Morris CR gained a mere 0.1%, lacking news. On the downside, Unipetrol lost 0.7%, and Cesky Telecom lost 0.3% despite news related to its likely acquisition of a 49% stake in Eurotel (which would deliver 100% ownership of the No. 1 domestic mobile operator). CEZ lost 0.1% on the week and closed Friday at CZK 109.64.
