The Anti-Monopoly Office should decide on CEZ’s acquisition of regional power distributors in November or December, Reuters reports, part of the government’s restructuring of the domestic energy sector. This is in line with expectations.
The decision of the State Nuclear Safety Office not to recommend some of the proposed changes (mostly related to safety updates) at the Temelin nuclear power plant was met with sharp criticism from Austrian politicians yesterday, who believe the changes, agreed at the beginning of 2002 would result in safety updates at the plant. Some Austrian politicians are seeking the involvement of the European Commission in the matter.
A year ago CEZ stock was rather sensitive to Temelin-related news, though its sensitivity has significantly decreased in recent months, and we do not expect the above to influence the stock. Also, we expect the European Commission to will be reluctant to get involved in a previously closed issue of Temelin NPP.
