Reports came out on Tuesday that the German government is calling on the Czech government to abandon CEZ’s Temelin nuclear power plant project. It emerged later in the day that the statements were not coming from the German government but rather from the German Environment Minister, J.Trittin, a long-standing Temelin opponent. Trittin spoke of safety risks and quoted the results of a study into Temelin commissioned by the German government. Czech authorities as well as CEZ rejected the German minister’s appeal. Our understanding is that the German government generally does not have any intention to get involved in the Temelin issue.
