Juergen Trittin, the German environment minister, reiterated his ministry’s position that the letter delivered earlier this week calling on the Czech government to re-consider halting Temelin represents the view of the German government. The office of the German government said yesterday that Germany is not planning to respond to the Czech government’s decision not to formally respond to the letter, but called for further consulting of the issue. The Czech government heads for a summer recess soon, but the Temelin issue is likely to be discussed at a high level during the German chancellor’s visit to the Czech Republic August 21–24.
Separately, British Energy says that it is interested in buying the Temelin nuclear plant, even if the plant were not completed. BE, which is interested in nuclear power plants, wants to form a consortium toward Czech power-sector privatization with another bidder. It is uncertain how the stock will respond to this mix of news today.
