Parties are unable to agree on election law. Yesterday's meeting of chairmen of the deputies' groups did not arrive at any specific results about the law on parliamentary elections, Senate chairman Petr Pithart told journalists.

The Czech koruna firmed against the euro on Tuesday as investors took profits on long euro positions, but the move ran out of steam in the afternoon and the koruna gave back some of its gains. The koruna was quoted at 34.78/83 to the euro late on Tuesday afternoon, from the day's top at 34.74 bid and low at around 34.87 bid. The koruna closed at around 34.88/91 on Monday. The firming came as the euro also lost against major currencies after poor German unemployment data. Koruna/dollar traded at 37.38/41 late on Tuesday from Monday's 37.50/53.
Bonds firm. The longest state 6.95/16 up 35 basis points to 16.00/30, yield 6.31/28. The state 6.75/05 at up five points to 103.80/10, yield 5.64/56.
