The government's banking privatization steering committee announced yesterday that it would propose at least four bids to Cabinet for the state's majority 60% stake in Komercni banka. The National Property Fund, however, did not reveal the bidders' names. A spokesman for the Ministry of Finance said that a fifth investor could be added to the shortlist if the investor submits additional materials. Today's edition of the MFD daily newspaper quotes a well-informed source that UniCredito, Bank Austria Creditanstalt, Hypovereinsbank and Societe Generale have all been shortlisted, with Credit Agricole the fifth candidate. Cabinet should approve the proposed shortlist in the beginning of December.
