It is expected that today EU will make a decision regarding retaining or lifting 6% duty for aluminium imports from Russia, Ukraine and Tajikistan. Poland supported by 8 other EU members push to abolish this duty from the beginning of 2007. The major opposing countries include Germany and France. Currently some 60% of aluminium consumption in EU comes from imports. Kety is purchasing some 20,000 tons of aluminium annually from Russia and according to Michal Malina, head of IR in Kety, the duty abolition would bring the company some PLN 10m of pre-tax savings.
