After yesterday’s talks with the ODS’s leader, Mirek Topolanek, the President said that he respects ODS”s targer of early elections while rejects a grand-coalition as proposed by the leader of CSSD, Jiri Paroubek, on Sunday. At the same time, the President would not support a 101 Government supported by a defected single MP.
Our view: We believe that the current political situation is pointing to early elections in the 1 half of next year. There are two ways for the early elections – three unsuccessful attempts to form a Government while one already took place and formation of a technocratic Government, which would lead to early elections. So far, it seems that Social Democrats (CSSD) are the only party rejecting early elections. Note that based on the most recent poll by the Stem agency, ODS would the elections with 32% (35.4% in June’s elections), followed by CSSD, which lost about 10% from June to 22.7% (32.3%), Communists 11.7% (12.7%), Greens 10.5% (6.3%) and the Parliament would reach also KDU-CSL (Christian democrats) with 6.3% (7.2%).
