Reuters informed that Bulgarian Government decided for Atomstrojexport as a general supplier for the construction of its 2,000 MW NPP Belene. The contract is worth CZK 100bn (some EUR 3.5bn)
Our view:
CEZ’s affiliate Skoda Praha was a member of the consortium lead by Skoda JS and was the sole competitor for Atomstrojexport. Bulgarian government has not completely decided about the future of the power plant; however it plans to keep at least 51% stake. CEZ, Enel and Gazprom expressed interest as the region will suffer from electricity supply shortage as Bulgaria has to close two nuclear blocks prior to EU accession.
