The leader of ODS (Civic Democrats), Mirek Topolanek, announced, after the negotiation with the second biggest party CSSD (Social Democrats), that ODS is trying to find a compromise across political spectrum (except Communists) while creating a new government “of national dialogue”. For the first time ODS admitted stable cabinet supported by CSSD, KDU (Christian Democrats) and Greens which should last longer than previously planned. The new early elections might be hold in 2009 (a full electoral term ends 2010). Only the Greens refused to participate in such a government. According to ODS and CSSD’s leaders, the government can be created in two weeks.
Our view:
Against all previous declarations it seems like ODS will cooperate with CSSD. Note that ODS, CSSD and KDU could create stable government with 168 chairs out of the total 200 in the parliament and could lead country even through full electoral term.
