ODS (Civic Democrats), KDU-CSL (Christian Democrats) and Greens agreed on a “Rainbow Coalition” without Communist with the mandate until the summer 2008. CSSD (Social Democrats) should decide whether they will support this project by Monday, November 27. Nevertheless, note that CSSD’s leader Paroubek said that, the project of the Rainbow Coalition has been already refused by Social Democrats for several times and the party may propose its own solution.
Separately: According to the last survey of election preferences made by CVVM agency, ODS increased its lead against CSSD in November. In comparison with the previous month ODS gained 5% to 41%, CSSD declined by 4.5% to 26%, Greens added 1.5% to 11%, Communists decreased by 4% to 11% and the last party which would pass 5% threshold needed to reached the Chamber is KDU-CSL with 1% gain to 7%.
Our view:
The Rainbow Coalition, compound of 4 parties mentioned above, would easily reach the parliamentary confidence. Note that the planed cabinet may not be able to implement any important reforms. However, we still believe that CSSD’s prime goal is to get a chance to form a Government. If not successful, early elections would be triggered.
