According to daily press, Milos Melcak, left the CSSD club yesterday keeping his MP mandate in the chamber. Note that Melcak belongs to CSSD’s fraction, which does not support creation of a grand coalition with ODS and prefers CSSD to move into opposition. We also remind that it is still not clear whether Melcak will vote with or against CSSD.
Our view: This is another weakening of the CSSD position as Melcak is the second defecting CSSD member. Note that CSSD should officially comment ODS proposed Government agenda, which would involve coalition of ODS, CSSD and Christian Democrats (KDU) in the next days. However, it is likely that CSSD will not support the program seeking its chance to form a Government in the third attempt. ODS’s leader, Mirek Topolanek, who has the current mandate to create a Government should present his 2nd cabinet to the president next week.
