According to president’s office statement, president will name the second cabinet today (January 9) at 11am. Note that a new government created by ODS’s (Civic Democrats) leader Mirek Topolanek has to ask for a parliamentary confidence in 30 days. Topolanek doesn’t plan to use whole period and aims to ask for confidence sooner (in the middle of January).
Our view:
Due to fact, that the centre-right coalition of ODS, KDU-CSL (Christian Democrats) and Greens has a same number of votes (100) in the chamber as left wing CSSD (Social Democrats) and Communists, we see possibility of winning the confidence highly unlikely. For the third attempt to form a government CSSD offered ODS cooperation and a chance to create the cabinet again, however any partnership with CSSD was rejected by ODS in December already. If the third attempt to make the government fails there will be an early election.
