The second Government won the confidence vote on Friday, January 19. The ruling coalition consists of Civic Democrats (ODS) and Christian Democrats (KDU-CSL) and Greens (SZ). The coalition reached 100 votes against opposing 97. Note that two social democratic members according to their previous statement did not take part in confidence vote and another CSSD’s vote was invalid due to wrong formulation. Early election is still the possibility according to coaliton leaders, should the new government is not able to put trhough all important reforms (health, tax and pension).
Our view:
As two deserters decided to tolerate government, the parliamentary confidence was expected. The cabinet signed agreement with mentioned CSSD’s members concerning support for the whole electoral term and will consult with them all draft laws. This “milestone” ended almost 8 month political deadlock.
