Czech household debt at banks and financial institutions grew by Kc4.3bn from February to Kc1,063bn at the end of March, the Czech National Bank (CNB) said today. In year-on-year terms the household debt was about Kc70bn higher.

Debts of companies rose by Kc11.94bn to Kc912.9bn on the year. Against February it was a rise of Kc3.2bn. Banks are trying to resume loan expansion in the business sector as well.

One-day deposits of households increased by more than K8bn to Kc1,014bn month-on-month. In year-on-year terms they were Kc183.8bn higher.

Households' deposits redeemable at notice, which include, for instance, time deposits, fell by nearly Kc107bn year-on-year to Kc345.2bn. Against the previous months they dropped by Kc3.8bn.

The growth of the M2 money supply slowed down to 2.5 percent in March from 2.8 percent in February.

The central bank makes public the statistics as part of its monthly monetary survey, based on balances from monetary financial institutions which include the central bank, commercial banks, money-market funds and credit unions.
