Business Summary: John Hancock Premium Dividend Fund (the Fund) is a closed-end management investment company. The Fund’s investment objective is to provide high current income, consistent with modest growth of capital. The Fund will pursue its objective by investing in a diversified portfolio comprised primarily of dividend-paying preferred securities and common equity securities. Under normal circumstances, the Fund will invest at least 80% of its net assets (plus borrowings for investment purposes) in dividend-paying securities. The Fund may invest in money market instruments, which include short-term United States government securities, investment grade commercial paper (unsecured promissory notes issued by corporations to finance their short-term credit needs), certificates of deposit and bankers’ acceptances.
