CEZ has expressed preliminary interest in acquiring three Romanian coal power producers in Turceni, Rovinari and Craiova. Romania is planning to sell the three plants by the end of the year. The three power plants represent 40% of the output of Romanian thermoelectric plants, which produce almost 2/3 pf Romania’s power. According to Romania’s Economy Minister, Codrut Seres, the sale of the power distributor Electrica Oltenia should be completed within the next months. The three power plants being privatized are located in the Oltenia region. CEZ’s interest is a part of its expansion strategy to build up its position in SE Europe.
