The EU is scheduled today to give its assessment of candidate countries’ preparedness to join the EU. A positive assessment of the Czech Republic’s preparations is expected.
Separately, the lower house of the Czech Parliament yesterday passed (first reading) a draft of an EU-accession bill that proposes a public referendum on the issue of country’s entry to the EU. The bill is expected to pass, and the referendum would likely be held by June 2003.
