One of CSSD’s condition in relation to negotiation about a new Government with the ODS is not privatizing CEZ while the company should become a major utility in the European market. CEZ, according to CSSD, should be used as a seed capital for an eventual pension reform. ODS’s departing ODS-vice leader, Peter Necas, agrees that CEZ should be used for an eventual pension reform. In addition, CSSS proposed Government’s program ‘Agenda 2010’ assumes modernization of the domestic energy sector including support for nuclear power. The Greens are opposing both, extension of nuclear blocks and keeping CEZ as a state company (68% owned by the state).
Our view: Even though, it seems rather preliminary to rely on CSSD and ODS proposal for a new Government at this point, these parties are the largest and their agreement on issues regarding CEZ would be easily passed in the Parliament regardless of the composition of a new Government.
