CSSD’s leader and current Prime Minister, Jiri Paroubek said that his party would negotiate the centre-right coalition’s invitation into the Government but proposed a support for a minority ODS’s Government, subject to concession by incorporating CSSD’s program. The centre-right was offering CSSD the post of the Lower House speaker in exchange for support of its Government. Note that the next attempt (3.) to elect the speaker is scheduled for Friday, July 14. CSSD has not yet proposed its candidate and hesitates to do so until deep discussions on the program.
Our view: While it has been clear that CSSD has been refusing the give up its powers to govern, our assumption of some sort of agreement between the two largest parties, ODS and CSSD is becoming more probably despite being refused by ODS now. The other alternative seems to be early elections. An agreement between ODS and CSSD would in fact be positive for CEZ given the both parties’ support for extension of mining limits and nuclear blocks opposed only by the Greens.
