Finance Minister Mertlik said yesterday that the new owner of Ceske radiokomunikace must be from the telecommunications sector or have a partner from the sector. Only two companies have confirmed being among the four short-listed bidders, TeleDanmark and Crown Castle International, both telecom companies. Since some of the other short-listed bidders are likely financial investors (possibly Emerging Markets Investors), the real choice among the bidders may be smaller than would appear. This could potentially have a negative implication for the selling price.
Mertlik also reasserted that Ceske radiokomunikace would not be split prior to privatizaton.
