The Czech Press Agency reports that a group of Austrian anti-Temelin activists intends on bringing legal charges against CEZ and Westinghouse in an Austrian regional court in order to impose upon the two companies unlimited liability in case of a nuclear accident at Temelin. This comes after the example of Upper Austria, which filed a legal charge against CEZ two weeks ago. Other legal challenges in the Czech Republic, Austria and The US should reportedly follow. Czech legal experts say there is no chance that the charges will be successful. The latest anti-Temelin activity adds to negative sentiment, but we expect no real effect on CEZ’s outlook and CEZ’s stock.
German chancellor Gerhard Schroeder visits the Czech Republic today and will meet the Czech Prime Minister. The official German stance toward Temelin could be discussed during his visit.
