The Czech Anti-monopoly Office has reportedly expressed concern that the state’s guarantees to Komercni banka may be anti-competitive. No formal procedure against the guarantees has been initiated, though. Strangely enough, the antimonopoly office seems to demand that the minimum KB selling price be CZK 36 bil. (CZK 1,573 per share) if its objections are to be dropped. Both KB’s CEO Radovan Vavra and Deputy Finance Minister Jan Mladek played down the issue. Any complication of this kind would not help the privatization process, but somehow the issue does not look to be so pertinent.
