(Martin Vojta) CNB also lowered mandatory minimum reserves to 7.5% of primary deposits from the previous 9.5% from August 1, 1998. This move enables banks to withdraw part of money deposited on interest-free accounts with CNB and invest them into interest bearing assets. We estimate that both KB and ČS will be able to use about CZK 6 bil., which could improve their net interest income by as much as about CZK 400 mil. this year and about CZK 900 mil. in 1999 (if we calculate that banks will use the whole benefit to boost their earnings).
