Majority requires 194 mandates in the Hungarian Parliament, which is not likely to be reached by either large parties. Thus large parties will have to find natural allies to form government. It is easier for the Socialists, whom currently govern in with coalition with the Free Democrats and are open to continue together. On the right wing front, small right wing party MDF denied any coalition with Fidesz both before and after the elections, making a left wing coalition more likely to be formed.
After the first round Socialist had 105, Fidesz 98, Free Democrats 4, MSZP-SZDSZ coalition 5 and MDF 2 mandates, while the 108 mandates are still to be allocated in the second round. Equity market would welcome the current government to continue rather than a Fidesz led government after latter party threatened with supervising privatization deals, cutting the profitability of generic pharmas and blaming the previous government to sell natural gas reserves to MOL under market price.
