Ceske radiokomunikace did not succeed in winning one of the three Czech FWA licenses (not to be confused with the third-generation UMTS cellular licenses). The Czech Telecommunications Office on Friday selected BroadNet, the StarOne/GiTy consortium and Nextra Wireless as the three winners. The nationwide FWA licenses will be awarded for a fixed fee of CZK 150 mil. each. The FWA licenses will allow their holders to operate wireless point-to-multipoint access technologies to connect to the end user (typically a small and medium business, in this case), without having to rely on the local-loop network of Cesky Telecom or having to lay a new fixed line. Ceske radiokomunikace was among the 13 bidders for the licenses. It was not seen as a favorite during the tender (none were), and its stock will likely be relatively unaffected by the failure to win a FWA license. Cesky Telecom was excluded from participating in the tender.
