    April industrial production growth slowed down, construction output decreased again

    In April 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 4.7%, year-on-year. Seasonally adjusted industrial production was higher by 0.3%, month-on-month. The value of new orders grew by 8.8%, year-on-year. The construction output decreased by 6.0%, year-on-year (y-o-y), in real terms. When seasonally adjusted the construction output was down by 2.8%, month-on-month (m-o-m). The planning and building control authorities granted by 0.9% more building permits, y-o-y, and the approximate value of permitted constructions plummeted by 35.0%, y-o-y. The number of started dwellings was lower by 18.2%, y-o-y, and the number of completed dwellings dropped by 27.7%, y-o-y.

    In April 2011, industrial production increased at constant prices by 4.7%, year-on-year; working day adjusted industrial production increased by 7.6%. There was 1 working day less in April 2011 compared to April 2010. Seasonally (as well as working day) adjusted industrial production was higher by 0.3%, m-o-m. The following contributed the most to the y-o-y growth of industrial production: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +3.1 percentage points, growth by 17.4%), manufacture of machinery and equipment (contribution +0.8 p.p., growth +9.5%), and manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +0.6 p.p., growth by 7.0%). The deepest decline of industrial production was recorded in electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (contribution -0.8 p.p., drop by 8.3%), manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 11.4%), and manufacture of food products (contribution -0.3 p.p., drop by 5.3%).

    Revenues from industrial activity at current prices increased by 6.5%, y-o-y. Direct export revenues of industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 13.3%. Domestic revenues, which include also indirect export via non-industrial enterprises at current prices increased by 0.6%, y-o-y.

    The value of new orders in selected industrial CZ-NACE activities increased by 8.8%, y-o-y. Non-domestic new orders grew by 9.3%, while domestic new orders increased by 8.2%. The y-o-y growth of new orders in total was the most contributed to by the following CZ-NACE divisions: manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers (contribution +5.3 p.p., growth by 17.0%), manufacture of fabricated metal products (contribution +2.0 p.p., growth by 18.1%), and manufacture of electrical equipment (contribution +1.6 p.p., growth by 17.0%). The value of new orders decreased in manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations (contribution -0.4 p.p., drop by 22.5%), manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 1.9%), and manufacture of other transport equipment (contribution -0.2 p.p., drop by 11.5%).

    The average registered number of employees in industrial enterprises with 50+ employees increased in April 2011 by 3.9%, y-o-y. Their average monthly nominal wage increased in April 2011 by 3.0%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 25 426.


    The CSU also published the construction output data. In April the construction output decreased by 6.0%, y-o-y, in real terms, when working days adjusted then it dropped by 4.6%. April 2011 was by one working day shorter compared to the same month of the previous year. The construction output seasonally adjusted was lower by 2.8%, m-o-m, in April 2011. The production in building construction fell by 2.3% (contribution -1.6 percentage points (p.p.)), y-o-y, and the production of civil engineering construction decreased by 13.7% (contribution
    -4.4 p.p.), y-o-y.

    The average registered number of employees in construction enterprises with 50+ employees fell by 3.5%, y-o-y, in April 2011. Their average monthly nominal wage decreased by 2.3%, y-o-y, and reached CZK 30 063.

    In April 2011 the number of building permits granted was up by 0.9%, y-o-y; the planning and building control authorities granted 9 210 building permits. The approximate value of the permitted constructions attained CZK 24.3 billion and plummeted by 35.0% compared to the same period of 2010. This deep drop was in part affected by the high comparison basis of April 2010. Yet the value of building permits granted was reduced namely by a drop in the value of building permits granted for constructions of transport infrastructure and for energy structures.

    The number of dwellings started in April 2011 fell by 18.2%, y-o-y, and attained the number of 2 266 dwellings. The number of dwellings started in family houses fell by 6.0%, year-on-year, and in multi-dwelling buildings the number of dwellings started plummeted by 66.2%).

    The number of completed dwellings declined by 27.7%, y-o-y, in April 2011 and was 2 091 dwellings. The number of completed dwellings in family houses decreased by 5.4% and the number of completed dwellings in multi-dwelling buildings dropped by 42.2%.
