The Czech koruna eased yesterday as markets’ fear of interventions against the currency intensified ahead of Thursday’s CNB meeting. Last week, Czech central bankers surprised us with comments indicating that interventions against the koruna were more likely than most analysts had thought. Namely, CNB board member Janáček supported Governor Singer, when he cautiously spoke in favor of interventions. We can expect that he CNB decision regarding interventions will be passed by a narrow majority this Thursday. The Czech currency lost 0.8% yesterday to close the session at 26.96 EUR/CZK – the weakest level since the beginning of August.
