The koruna has found a new maximum since January 1999 against the dollar.
Following weakening of the dollar against the euro on the world markets the
koruna broke the level of 31.000 against the dollar in the morning trading
yesterday and reached 30.900. However, another maximum touched the koruna in
the afternoon as firmed to 30.850 and closed at 30.880. The EUR/CZK was
influenced by higher-than-expected trade deficit figure and weakened from
30.280 to 30.370 in the morning. However, the koruna started to firm against
the euro in the afternoon and reached 30.190. Foreign trade in May ended in
a deficit of CZK11.8bn, which was CZK 3.2bn more than in May 2001, and also
CZK 0.54bn higher than in April 2002.
The koruna broke the level of 30.000 today morning and the EUR/CZK is
currently moving around 29.800, which is a new maximum.
