WARSAW. MAY 22. INTERFAX C.NTRAL EUROPE - Polish power producer Polski Koncern Energetyczny (PKE), part of Poland's second-largest consolidated power group, will invest a total of PLN 11 bln by 2020 in modernization works, PKE stated Tuesday.
"By 2020 total investments in modernization [works], power production capacity [upgrades] and ecology [reducing emissions] will amount to nearly PLN 11 bln," the statement reads.
The investment is part of PKE's strategy, which includes the construction of several new power units with a total capacity of 2,260 MW by 2020.
"In order to maintain a 14% share in the domestic electric power market, PKE assumes maintenance of power production capacities at the current level of 5,000 MW," the statement reads. "By 2020 the company will build several new power production units with total capacity of 2,200 MW, a move that will not increase power production potential but will radically improve its effectiveness."
The PKE holding includes eight power stations and electrical/heating plants in southern Poland, good for a total production of 4,953 MWe of electric power annually and 2,399 MWt of heat annually. PKE accounts for 14% of domestic energy production and 16% of local heat output.
