Yesterday PM Stanislav Gross suggested to the president a minority government with the support of the opposition party ODS. ODS, however, turned it down but left the door open for further talks. The president called for fast solution to the crisis, including the possibility of early elections.
According to the Hospodarsky noviny daily, CSSD now has seven possible scenarios:
(i) A minority cabinet with the support of the ODS opposition party
(ii) A minority cabinet with Communist Party support
(iii) The current coalition with ‘non-political’ ministers replacing Christian Democrat ministers (3)
(iv) The current coalition and the same Christian Democrat ministers
(v) The PM’s resignation and the same coalition
(vi) The PM’s resignation and early elections
(vii) The PM’s resignation and a caretaker government
The PM said that the scenario would be chosen by the middle of next week. The current political crisis should have no impact on the privatization of Cesky Telecom at the moment, as the process is well under way. There are no indications so far that the process would be postponed/cancelled.
