The centre-right coalition did not reach any agreement with the CSSD yesterday on its support for the centre-right coalition. CSSD nominated its candidate for the Friday’s vote for the Lower House’s speaker while the centre-right nominated also its own candidate. Note that CSSD refuses its candidate to compete with someone else and threatens to withdraw him should the centre-right keep its candidate as it will not be able to effectively control how all of its MP’s vote.
Our view: The seemingly deadlock breaking proposal from the centre-right to build its program on CSSD’s own program pillars failed as no agreement was reached yesterday. Therefore, the centre-right is not likely to support CSSD’s candidate for the Speaker’s position on Friday or CSSD will re-call its candidate anyway as the centre-right nominated its own one. Therefore it seems that no solution is emerging and we are back to our assumptions that either some sort of agreement between CSSD and ODS or early elections is the likely outcome.
