The number of guests in
commercial accommodation in Budapest fell 5.5pc to 666,000 and the
number of guest nights dropped 5.0pc to 1.7 million in the first
five months of the year, compared to the same period last year, the
Central Statistics Office (CSO) said on Wednesday.
The number of foreign visitors, who make up almost 80pc of
the total, dropped 7.6pc, while the number of Hungarian visitors
spending nights in commercial accommodation rose 1.3pc.
The monthly break-down shows that January was the only month
with better tourism figures than last year, whereas the slump
bottomed out in March and May.
The national tourism figures the CSO published on Wednesday show
a 3pc fall in guest nights and a 8pc fall in the number of foreign
guests for the January-May period year-on-year.
Three in four of the 868,000 foreign tourists arriving in
Hungary in the period under review visited Budapest and spent one or
more nights there. (source: Bloomberg)
