The Czech Telecommunication Office (CTU) plans to launch a tender for a third UMTS licence. Two companies asked CTU for the licence, and we believe that Oskar, the third largest mobile phone operator, is one of them. The CTU did not provide any further information as to the name of the second company being interested in the UMTS license. There are speculation that Ceske radio, Vodafone and Orange may be interested. Two licences were already sold in 2001 to mobile operators Eurotel and T-Mobile for a total of CZK 7.4bn.
