The Czech Telecommunications Office (CTU) formally launched the Czech UMTS tender yesterday; the state is reportedly asking the three existing operators for a fixed-price of CZK 6.7 bil. for each license in the first round. The operators have previously stated that they are willing to pay no more than CZK 3 bil. for a license. If they do not accept the fixed price, the licenses will be auctioned off in a second round. The CTU intends to issue four licenses in total. Unlikely to have impact on Czech telecom stocks.
