(The Fleet Sheet – MFD/1) President Havel will likely ask Miloš Zeman today to attempt to form a cabinet after ČSSD won the most votes in the parliamentary elections over the weekend. Zeman will apparently try for a minority government with KDU-ČSL with support from ODS and US. Zeman ruled out a three-way coalition with KDU and US, which is favored by KDU Chairman Josef Lux but rejected by US Chairman Jan Ruml. Lux also said a two-party coalition of KDU and ČSSD is not possible. Some KDU members prefer a right-wing coalition with ODS and US, which would have a majority of 102 seats in parliament. Lux said, though, that this would be a step backwards unless ODS changed its political style. He denied that this means he wants Václav Klaus to quit as ODS chairman.
