The Czech koruna firmed to 28,16 CZK to euro today. There were no fresh local news and even the ECB meeting didn´t influence the rate. However, speculations before tomorrow Czech trade balance data helped the CZK to firm.
The koruna ended stronger also against the USD, with the closing rate at 22,20 CZK/USD. The ECB was the key event of the day for the USD/EUR , but the outcome of the meeting was widely expected - rates higher by 25 bps. Even Mr. Trichet´s statement didn´t bring any surprise, so the next hike seems to come at December. The dollar firmed versus the euro rather thanks to better-than-expected new jobless claims. Tomorrow, the market will focus on US unemployment and new payrolls.
