The Czech telecom-sector regulator, the CTU, yesterday lowered interconnection tariffs to fixed networks by approx. 30%, effective September 3. The decrease is greater than both the alternative operators and Cesky Telecom had expected.
There will be a negative direct effect on CTel in the form of lower revenues from alternative domestic operators (net of payments to network operators), and the decrease will allow alternative operators to lower their call tariffs. This would possibly increase their market share, or force CTel to lower its call tariffs as well. Nevertheless, CTel stock did not react yesterday.
To date, three alternative operators (Aliatel, Tele2, Contactel) have launched call-by-call choice of operator service.
