Reuters quotes Josef Hojdar, a CEZ privatization commission member, as saying that if the state Anti-Monopoly Office does not approve of the CEZ privatization tender as proposed, the tender would have to be canceled. The AMO recently warned that the joint privatization of CEZ, CEZ’s transmission assets, and regional distributors would significantly reduced competition in the domestic energy sector. Although it cannot dictate the privatization terms to Cabinet, its approval of the sale is necessary for the completion of the privatization. The quote is negative, though the AMO’s stance on the issue has been mentioned several times recently.
